Recent New York car accident: 5 killed, 6 injured

Head-on collisions are perhaps the most violent type of car accidents. When two vehicles crash into one another from opposite directions, the impact that each vehicle's occupants experience is typically extremely severe. A recent head-on collision accident in New York involved multiple vehicles and took the lives of five individuals and injured six others.

Recent New York bicycle accident: teen seriously injured in crash

Like in many personal injury cases, the injuries suffered by a bicyclist in a bike crash can vary widely. In a minor accident, some may only suffer bumps, bruises, cuts and scrapes, while in a more serious accident, the cyclist can suffer fractures or spinal injuries. When a catastrophic incident occurs, death or paralysis may result. Many bike injuries in New York result from a cyclist being injured by an opened car door, commonly referred to as a 'dooring' injury, or being run over and/or off the road by another vehicle.

Recent New York car accident: 1 injured in crash

As any New York resident who has been in a car crash can tell you, being involved in one can be a terrifying experience. Often, at least some of the people involved in car accidents are injured -- sometimes severely -- and their respective automobiles are badly damaged. The legal system can help the parties to the crash sort out who is at fault for the accident, as well as which party needs to pay for the doctors' and mechanics' bills.

Pokémon Go is The Latest Example of Distracted Driving

Many drivers are finding themselves to be distracted when they are behind the wheel, whether they are talking on their cell phone, texting, eating, surfing the Internet on their mobile devices or playing with the radio. Now, there is a new distraction for drivers: Pokémon Go.

Drowsy Drivers Pose Dangers on the Road

While most will agree that getting behind the wheel of a car while intoxicated poses a threat to the driver and others, it is unbeknownst to many that a motorist's lack of sleep may pose equal or greater danger to those on the roadways. According to a report released this month by the Governors Highway Safety Association (GHSA), drowsy-driving accounts for 10 to 20 percent of large truck or bus crashes on U.S. roadways. Every day, nearly 83.6 million American drivers get behind the wheel while fatigued and an estimated 5,000 lives were lost in drowsy-driving related accidents last year.

New York biker involved in bike accident, suffers head injury

Many bicycle accidents in New York City are caused by negligent or reckless motorists. However, a recent bike accident on Madison Avenue and East 56th Street didn't even involve a vehicle. A bicyclist using the city's bike share program, Citi Bike, crashed his bike and seriously injured his head. The front tire struck a wheel stop -- a long, narrow line of concrete running perpendicular to the road at the edges of Citi Bike's docking stations.

Outdoor slip and fall accidents and what causes them

One of the most common types of personal injury lawsuits in New York is one that arises after someone was injured on another person's property. This is due to the fact that such accidents may be caused by a plethora of differing conditions. Icy sidewalks during the winter or a supermarket's aisle becoming cluttered are just two examples of the common causes of slip and fall accidents.

New Jersey teens killed in early morning car accident

Two young men from New Brunswick and North Brunswick were tragically killed in a single-car accident after the car in which they were riding left Route 18 and crashed into the Raritan River around 1 a.m. on Monday, July 25. Police are still investigating the possible causes of the accident.

Recent New York car accidents: Fatal accident kills 1

It's a person's worst nightmare to be awoken by the sound of a trooper knocking on the door to say that the individual's spouse, parent or child is never coming home again. Sadly, this is the tragic reality for many in New York after fatal car accidents. One such fatal accident recently occurred that took the life of one individual while seriously injuring another.

Will texting drivers soon have to worry about the Textalyzer?

Even though most states, including New York, have laws that prohibit texting while driving, people still do it - thereby putting themselves and everyone else on the road at risk. The situation is made even worse by the fact that it is often difficult for police to enforce the laws already on the books.

Insurance payouts for dog bites increase. Are homeowners always legally responsible?

According to data released earlier this year by the Insurance Information Institute (III), the average homeowners' insurance payout for dog-bite claims was $37,214 in 2015 - a 16 percent increase from the year before, and an astonishing 94 percent increase from 2003. In fact, dog bites and other dog-related injuries now account for a whopping one-third of all dollars paid in homeowners' insurance liability claims, according to the III report.

New York tenants say landlord failing to maintain safe conditions

Residents of a New York apartment building are at odds over recent renovations. The massive construction project has been going on for the better part of a year since its owner, the Brodsky Organization, assumed new leadership. While some applaud the changes in store, others feel the construction itself is creating more of a hazard than original condition of the building. They are accusing the new management of failing to maintain safe conditions.
