Another NYC sidewalk accidents leaves 7 pedestrians injured

Sep 6, 2013 | 0 comments

Another sidewalk accident has left several people injured in New York City after a car jumped the curb after being rear-ended by another vehicle. The accident occurred last night around 7:00 p.m. at Eastern Parkway and Kingston Avenue in Crown Heights, Brooklyn.

Five people had to be taken to local hospitals for treatment and two reportedly declined medical attention. Crime Stoppers is looking for any information from witnesses to help police with their investigation. At this point, no criminal charges have been filed.

It seems like every week there is another sidewalk accident involving a car jumping the curb and striking pedestrians in the city.

Anytime a sidewalk accident occurs, it’s important to call the police or an ambulance, if necessary, to make a report of the incident. It is also wise to take pictures of the accident scene, if possible. Finally, it’s important to be seen by a doctor right away, even if the injuries don’t seem severe. Oftentimes, injuries become worse as time progresses if treatment is not administered.

Typically, sidewalk accidents are caused by negligent drivers or property owners who fail to keep sidewalks free from hazards. Prior to 2003, the city of New York was responsible for sidewalk defects and the accidents they caused, but that year a new law went into effect holding private property owners liable.

After a sidewalk accident takes place — whether it was caused by a driver or unsafe sidewalk conditions — it can be difficult to know where to turn for compensation. An experienced personal injury lawyer can help a sidewalk accident victim determine what his or her options are and how to proceed.
