Bike accident victim claims negligence caused New York incident

With more and more cities trying to adopt environmentally friendly ways, alternate transportation options are available to travelers. One alternate traveling option in New York is a bike sharing program called Citi Bike. Though the bikes might be creating cleaner air in New York, at least one personal injury lawsuit suggests they might create danger, too.

Someone who utilized the bike share program last year has filed a negligence case against the city and the company responsible for Citi Bike. He claims that he injured himself in a bike accident in New York because of the negligent design of the bikes docking station.

The plaintiff says that he crashed and fell over his bike because a different level was not reasonably visible in the bike docking system. He suffered brain damage that leaves him unable to taste or smell. Maybe the brain injury isn’t as life-changing as the loss of speech or lost memories, but the loss of the senses of taste and smell most definitely could leave a void in a person’s life.

Based on what the plaintiff is seeking through his personal injury lawsuit, his loss of taste and smell is worth at least $15 million. A legal victory might not bring back his enjoyment of foods and fragrance, but the win could send a message that all businesses, including “green” ones, have a responsibility to look out for the safety of a community.

This specific bike accident story is different than others but still as important, particularly to its victim. When someone believes that negligence has caused him or her injuries, they should not hesitate to weigh their legal options with a personal injury lawyer.
