A 43-year-old construction worker was killed when part of a crane broke off and fell onto his head.
The New York Post cited a report from the Department of Buildings that Paul Kennedy was operating a pile drilling machine at a worksite in Brooklyn on October 11 when, at approximately 1:20 p.m., a shackle on the crane snapped off and the crane’s hook hit him in the head.
According to The Brooklyn Eagle, members of the NYPD and the FDNY responded to the scene, where they found Mr. Kennedy unresponsive and unconscious. He was later pronounced dead at the scene.
The worksite has had problems in the past. An article from the Brooklyn Paper showed that, in May, the worksite was cited by the Building Department — which has since issued a stop-work order — for a safety violation after inspectors found hazardous conditions which could cause people to either slip and fall or trip.
