Man Dragged to His Death by Subway Car

Mar 23, 2016

On February 15, 2016 a man trying to board a subway train in New York City got jammed between the cab’s doors and was dragged along the platform for about 60 feet. The man was rushed to Jamaica Hospital, where he died from blunt force trauma.

The incident occurred at the Kew Gardens-Union Turnpike station. The F train was headed towards Manhattan at approximately 6:45 p.m., and when the victim tried to board, his clothes became trapped in the closing doors. It is speculated that the victim may have been intoxicated, but coworkers stated that he was on medication for his back.

The train was an R160, which is one of the newer models in use since 2006. The trains have a technological system that detects and alerts when the cab doors are not properly closed. It was reported by the New York Post that witnesses did not think the driver of the train was aware of the victim stuck in the doors since the train did not stop after first departing the platform. The Mass Transit Authority questioned and tested the crew for drugs and alcohol, the results of which have not been released as of this writing.

A subway train accident can be very dangerous, often causing serious injury or death. If you or a loved one have been injured in a subway accident, you may be entitled to compensation.
