New York Tugboat Crash Claimed Three Crewmember’s Lives

Apr 19, 2016

On March 12, 2016 a tugboat escorting a crane from Albany to Jersey City, collided with a stationary construction barge located near the Tappan Zee Bridge. The tugboat, named The Specialist, was manned by three crewmembers, all of whom perished in the incident. After hitting the barge, the tugboat capsized and sank to the bottom of the Hudson River.

Unfortunately, this has not been the first boat accident at this location. In 2013, a boating accident claimed the lives of a bride-to-be and best man, and also involved a Tappan Zee Bridge construction barge. The private craft collided with the barge, killing the two individuals and injuring several others. While the operator was charged with two felony counts of vehicular manslaughter and pled guilty, it was argued that the barge was improperly lit.

If you have been in a boat accident, whether it was caused by driver error or another condition, you may be entitled to compensation. Contact an experienced personal injury attorney who can discuss your claim with you and advise you of your legal rights and remedies. Call Sakkas, Cahn & Weiss, LLP at 212-571-7171.
